IOmass Web Development and Graphic Design

Introduction

John WenzelMy name is John Wenzel and IOmass serves primarily as a brochure for the services I offer. Although my services are provided to anyone anywhere, you might be interested to know that I live in the Twin Cities, Minnesota. I develop websites from simple to complex, from conservative to stylish. I've built many websites and in doing so, I've gained a lot of experience in developing complex database driven applications. Specifically, I've built ecommerce stores complete with credit card transaction interfaces, automatic inventory updates via daily database imports from vendors as well as shipping calculations utilizing FedEx databases.

What makes me especially unique in this field is my creative eye, which many programmers and developers lack. Coming from both a mathematics and art background, I excel at graphic design as well. These abilities allow me to execute all stages in the development of a website; from professional design and graphics to sophisticated database integration. Incidentally, the design of this website is purposely conservative and simple, since I wanted it to serve only as a simple framework to display examples of my work.

The remainder of the page highlights examples of my websites, graphic designs and oil painting. At the very bottom is an explanation of my rates.

Web Development

Wilcraft Screenshot One website I've built and maintain is for Wilcraft. The Wilcraft is a marketed as "The Premier Ice Fishing and Hunting Rig". The target audience for the site is the avid sportsman and outdoorsman, with a special focus on ice fishing and water fowl hunting. Consequently, I designed the website and graphics to have the look and feel of an established recreational vehicle manufacturer. In terms of code complexity, this site is relatively simple. It features an administrative backend where the Wilcraft Staff can add events to the online calendar as well as a contact list that is fed both manually and by information input by visitors on the contact page. If you are somewhat technical, I can tell you that I am well versed in PHP, MySQL, CSS, XHTML, Javascript, XML and AJAX. My client list includes Multifarious/Wilcraft, Digitiliti Inc., Storage Elements Inc., Sayre Strand and Summit Brewing. I've also built a multitude of my own experimental websites where I am able to practice the integration of new systems such as RSS Feeds, Google AdSense, Google Maps etc.

Logo Design Service

I like clean and simple graphic logos that are easily recognizable. Often times, most of the work involved in designing a logo is simply coming up with the idea and color scheme. Once we know what we want, then it is just a matter of creating a bunch of different versions and narrowing down from there until we arrive at your favorite. Below are some examples of logos I have designed.

Graphic Elements

I also design graphic elements for websites, printed materials and garments. I've made quite a few brochures for printing and for use on the web as PDFs. The graphics examples below range from technical diagrams to funny cartoons. I'll give anything a shot!

Oil Painting

Originally, I went to college for Physics but then I switched over to Fine Arts. You might say that I was seduced by the apparent freedom at the time. Incidentally, I'm 37 and I'm going back to school this winter at the U of M for Math and/or Computer Science. Over the years, I've bounced back and forth between technical interests and purely creative interests such as painting. I'll still do commissions of just about anything in just about any style, but of course I prefer to paint in my own style. I have found that my experience as a painter has made me a much better graphic artist. If you are real interested in art, I do have a few paintings that I haven't sold. The ones that I have for sale include the top right one below and are all in my own style.

My rates vary by the type of job and I typically bid projects by the size of the job. Once a website is completed, there is always at least some maintenance and updates to be done periodically. Some clients want their websites updated often which typically comes to 5 or 10 hours a month. These updates and/or changes are done on a predetermined hourly basis, with a one hour minimum for changes and updates. A portion of the price of larger projects is due up front as a retainer. Hourly work and a monthly hosting fee of $20 is typically billed out monthly. If you need a domain name, I can set that up for you too. These are usually under $10/year through GoDaddy.com. If you'd like a quote on a website, a graphic or just want to chat, email me at the address at the top right of the page.

As far as artwork pricing, paintings also vary depending on the piece.

Thank You for your time,

John Wenzel
